Ecuador is checking the fuel supply chain before the next monthly price update on June 12.
The Ministry of Environment and Energy, Petroecuador and the hydrocarbons regulator ARCH are supervising gas stations, terminals and distribution centers to verify normal supply and prevent hoarding or speculation.
What Is Being Checked
The controls cover the dispatch and sale of:
- Extra gasoline
- Ecopaís gasoline
- Diesel
- Super gasoline
Officials say distribution is operating normally from active terminals and that fuel dispatch is covering national demand.
Why June 12 Matters
Fuel prices in Ecuador update on the 12th day of each month under a band system tied to the international WTI oil price.
The band limits public prices from rising more than 5% or falling more than 10% compared with the reference price movement.
Super gasoline is liberalized, so the government publishes a suggested price rather than a fixed one.
Refinery Recovery
Authorities also highlighted the recovery of units at the Esmeraldas refinery after a March fire.
Those repairs lifted the plant from about 40% to nearly 90% of technical capacity. Petroecuador invested $15.7 million in the recovery work.
What This Means for Expats
If you drive, run a business with delivery costs, or travel by interprovincial transport, watch the June 12 fuel update.
The government says supply is normal, but price-change windows can create anxiety at gas stations. Filling up normally is fine; panic buying usually creates the problem people are trying to avoid.
