Ecuador is running a weekend measles vaccination push across the country.
El Universo reports that the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) will run a national Vacunaton contra el sarampion on Saturday, May 30, and Sunday, May 31, 2026.
The campaign covers all 24 provinces.
Why The MSP Is Doing It
El Universo reports the MSP cited two epidemiological factors:
- An active measles outbreak in Peru
- The approaching FIFA World Cup, which will increase human mobility, tourism and arrivals from places where the virus is still circulating
The ministry said the campaign is intended to close immunity gaps immediately.
Where Brigades Will Be
El Universo reports that vaccination points will be placed in high-flow and high-mobility areas, including:
- Markets
- Bus terminals
- Airports
- Plazas
- Shopping centers
- Outside educational units
What This Means For Expats
If your children, household staff or caregivers are missing vaccines, this is a good weekend to check. Measles spreads easily, and cross-border travel raises the importation risk.
Bring identification and any vaccine records you have. If you are unsure whether you are covered, ask at a public health point or your regular doctor before assuming an old childhood memory is enough.
