Quito's airport has added another international recognition to its record.
Expreso reports that Aeropuerto Internacional Mariscal Sucre was named "Aeropuerto del Ano" in the NCE Airports Awards 2026, organized by the British specialist magazine New Civil Engineer.
The Awards
In addition to the main award, Expreso reports that the Quito airport received three other recognitions:
- Mejor Tecnologia para Infraestructuras de la Aviacion
- Valor Social e Impacto en la Comunidad
- Construccion Sostenible
Expreso says the airport competed with some of the world's most relevant airport projects.
What Quiport Says
Ramon Miro, president and CEO of Quiport, said the four international recognitions reflect sustained, long-term management.
According to Expreso, Miro said the awards reflect work carried out over several years to integrate sustainability, technological innovation, operational efficiency and social commitment in the airport's administration.
Expreso also reports that the Quito airport has recently been recognized as Best Regional Airport in South America in the Skytrax World Airport Awards, and has risen to fourth place in the ACI-LAC air-cargo ranking for Latin America and the Caribbean.
What This Means for Expats
For foreign residents who travel through Quito, this is not a fare or route change. It is an operations and management signal around the airport most tied to the capital.
The practical angle is that Quito's airport continues to receive international attention for technology, sustainability, social impact and cargo performance.
