Quito AMT Exonerates Matriculation Fine for Plate 4 Vehicles

Quito drivers with license plates ending in 4 got relief after a messy month of vehicle-system failures.

Primicias reports that the Agencia Metropolitana de Transito (AMT) announced on May 29, 2026, that it will exonerate the calendar fine for vehicles whose last plate digit is 4.

The measure follows failures in the national ANT system and problems generating municipal payment orders.

What The Exoneration Allows

Primicias reports that owners of affected vehicles can complete revision tecnica vehicular and matriculation through November 2026 without receiving the calendar sanction.

The AMT also said payments for matriculation, vehicle review and ordinance fines can take up to 48 working hours to appear in its systems, depending on the payment channel.

System Maintenance

Primicias reports the AMT scheduled maintenance on the municipal services portal from 16:30 on May 29 until 24:00 on May 31.

During that window, payment-order services will be unavailable.

The system problems began on May 18, and the AMT extended service hours through May 30 at six Quito technical review centers.

What This Means For Expats

If you own a Quito-registered vehicle ending in 4, do not panic about the normal calendar fine. But do keep screenshots, payment receipts and appointment records until the systems settle.

If you are doing vehicle paperwork this weekend, expect online services to be unavailable and give payments time to appear before assuming something went wrong.
