Quito’s Sierra-Amazon school-vacation season is bringing a wide spread of courses for the next two months.

The offer includes municipal and private options: art, reading, sign language, self-defense, music, chess, football, and outdoor educational activities.

Prices range from $1 per class to $170 for full multi-week programs.

What Is Available

Two city cultural centers are opening five free workshops: the Centro de Arte Contemporaneo in the Historic Center and the Centro de Arte y Cultura Bicentenario in northern Quito.

The Municipality also announced more than 450 free activities for the vacation season.

In Cumbaya, Paseo San Francisco is offering a vacation camp from July 7 to August 8 for children ages 4 to 12. The schedule is Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The full program costs $170, and one week costs $55.

What This Means For Expats

If you have children in the Sierra-Amazon school calendar, July and August are not only downtime. They are also the easiest window to plug kids into Spanish-language activities, local sports, and arts programs.

For adults, the useful part is the range. Some programs are private and structured; others are free city activities. That makes this a practical week to compare locations, ages, schedules, and language comfort before committing.
