Quito is expanding its Quito Wawas childcare network with a new center in Atucucho, in the north of the capital.
The Atucucho center will serve 100 children ages 1 to 3 free of charge while their families work or study.
What The Center Offers
The center will provide four food rations per day, specialized educators, early stimulation, pedagogical activities, and health follow-up for early childhood.
It will be the fourth Quito Wawas center administered directly by the Municipality of Quito through Patronato San Jose. Two more similar spaces are planned for Pisuli and Solanda.
Size And Cost
The new infrastructure covers 1.022 square meters. Construction received more than $700.000, and nearly $100.000 more will go into furniture and equipment.
Some spaces have already been assigned, but spaces remain available. Registration is free for interested families in vulnerable situations, because the service is directed primarily to that population.
What This Means For Expats
For families in Quito, this is a useful signal about where municipal childcare capacity is growing. The broader Quito Wawas network now operates in 45 urban and rural parishes, with capacity for 4.149 children and an annual city budget of around $12 million.
