The Details

Interagua, Guayaquil's private water and sewer concessionaire, is interrupting service to more than 30 sectors in the southern part of the city on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, from 06:00 to 14:00 — an eight-hour cut (source).

The reason: emergency repair work on a pipeline leak in the Coviem sector. The repair is urgent enough that Interagua advanced its normal programmed-work schedule to handle it.

Affected Sectors

The full list of neighborhoods and sectors without water today:

Independiente, 25 de Septiembre, 17 de Septiembre, Santiago de Guayaquil, Guayaquil Independiente, Libertad II, Coviem, Los Esteros, Santa Mónica, Jaime Roldós (Fertisa), Jambelí, Las Tejas, Federación Deportiva del Guayas, Nueva Guayaquil Sur, Almagro, Santa Martha 2, Las Terrazas, Floresta, Los Lirios, Esteros Populares, Santiaguito de Roldós, Proyecto Habitacional Municipal, Ahora le toca al pueblo, Viernes Santo, Fragata Popular, Plan Techo, Jaime Nebot, 9 de Octubre (Guasmo), Paco Oñate II, Guevara Moreno, 9 de Julio, Brisas del Salado, Puerto Nuevo, Guasmos.

If your sector is not on this list, you should still expect reduced pressure — major repairs can affect adjacent zones through shared mains.

What This Means for Expats

  • If you're in one of the listed sectors, fill water containers before 6 AM. Plan for drinking, cooking, toilet flushing, and basic cleaning for an 8-hour window.
  • Don't run washing machines or dishwashers until after 2 PM. A sudden pressure return into an active appliance can damage valves.
  • Close main valves if you'll be away. When pressure returns, sudden surges have historically triggered pipe failures — especially in older buildings.
  • For drinking water, consider bottled. Even after service returns, expect discoloration or air in the lines for the first 30 minutes. Let the tap run clear before drinking or cooking.
  • This is Interagua-specific. Guayaquil's water is operated under private concession by Interagua. If you're in Cuenca, Quito, or another city, your utility is different. In Cuenca, for example, ETAPA runs water/sewer.
