Fictional example · deliverable excerpt
A shortlist, a budget method, and a next-step timeline
Fictional illustrative excerpt: two adults comparing Cuenca, Quito, and Loja for a move in six months. Their priorities are walking for errands, a quiet home, and keeping a reserve for unexpected costs.
Your decision to make first
Use your scouting visit to choose a neighborhood before committing to a long lease. For this example household, daily errands and nighttime noise carry more weight than the apartment's size.
Your city shortlist
| Candidate | Its role in your comparison | Evidence to collect |
|---|---|---|
| Cuenca | First city to investigate | Walk between two candidate rentals, groceries, and your usual errands. Repeat near evening. |
| Quito | Alternative to compare with the same criteria | Time the journeys you would actually make from each candidate neighborhood. |
| Loja | Third option if the first two miss your priorities | Confirm that your recurring activities and services are available within a workable journey. |
This excerpt shows the comparison method. A completed plan explains the city-specific tradeoffs using dated research and your circumstances.
Build your budget from evidence
Keep four totals: monthly spending, one-time setup, refundable deposits, and your contingency. For each estimate, record the source, date, what is included, and what still needs confirmation. Keep deposits separate so you can see the cash needed before moving. Do not treat an unanswered price question as zero.
If the verified monthly total exceeds your limit, first test a different rental or neighborhood. Keep the contingency visible while comparing options.
Your preparation sequence
- Now: identify must-haves, choose a scouting window, and start collecting comparable quotes.
- Before the visit: arrange flexible accommodation and set up neighborhood comparisons.
- During the visit: record actual journeys, observations, and quoted costs.
- Before committing: update the budget and list any questions that still require a specialist.
Your full deliverable also includes a recorded walkthrough and one written clarification.
