Day 3: test an ordinary weekday in Cuenca

Fictional illustrative excerpt: a 10-day Cuenca visit for two adults who want to run most errands on foot. This is one sample day from the written itinerary; arrangements are made by the traveler.

Today's decision

Could you comfortably repeat this routine from your shortlisted neighborhood every week? Compare your experience against your own walking and transport limits.

Morning: start from a real candidate address

Leave at the time you would normally begin your day. Walk to a grocery option and a place you would regularly use, such as a café or workspace. Record door-to-door time, crossings, steps, shade or shelter, and places to pause. Buy a small, repeatable basket of items and retain the receipt for your budget worksheet.

Midday: test the journey home

Try the transport option you expect to use when carrying groceries or when the weather changes. Confirm the route and current operating information before setting out. Record the wait, actual fare, payment method, and whether the journey felt manageable with bags.

Afternoon: compare a second candidate

Repeat the same grocery-and-errand route from the second neighborhood. Consistent criteria make this more useful than comparing one pleasant walk with one rushed visit. If you have arranged a viewing, record what you observe separately from what the owner tells you.

Early evening: revisit the surroundings

Return only if conditions and your comfort allow. Listen for traffic and nearby activity. Note how the route differs from your morning visit. Keep a flexible fallback and avoid making a lease decision on this first comparison.

Record before the next day

For each neighborhood, mark fits, needs another test, or does not fit beside walking, groceries, transport, noise, and accessibility. Write one observation supporting each mark. End with: “What would we need to verify before choosing this area?”

The complete plan adapts each day to your dates, priorities, fixed commitments, and pace.
