Ecuador's state telecom operator says 80% of institutional clients have recovered services after a technical failure disrupted several public platforms.

The problem followed an electrical incident at one of CNT's data centers. CNT said the issue was recorded at approximately 14:00 and affected the operation of one data center.

The affected institutions included Quito's AMT, the Contraloria General del Estado, Sercop, and the Ministry of the Interior. CNT also acknowledged interruptions in mobile service for users.

Recovery Still in Progress

CNT later said 75% of cloud operations had been fully restored. That represented about 80% of institutional clients beginning to recover access to their platforms.

The company said full operation was expected to reach 100% in the following hours.

What This Means for Expats

This matters because many Ecuador procedures depend on public digital platforms, from traffic and municipal services to contracting, government records and agency portals.

If an online government service fails or behaves unusually this week, the safest move is to save screenshots, avoid duplicate payments where possible, and confirm the transaction status before assuming the problem is on your side.
