A water-service interruption affected several sectors of Vía a la Costa in Guayaquil on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

Interagua said the problem came from a leak in the aqueduct near kilometer 51. The company said technical staff were working on the emergency and that tanker trucks were being used to supply affected areas.

Affected Areas

The reported affected areas include the communes and settlements of Las Balsas, Las Piedritas, Cerecita, Bajada de Chanduy, San Isidro, San Cristóbal, Bajada de Progreso, Las Micas, Cristal, San Jerónimo, San Andrés I and II, Palo Santo, El Tigre, San Antonio-Tapón de Sardinas Real, Mamey, San José de Amén and the Caimito cooperative.

The interruption also affected Santa Rosa, Prosperina, Aguas Verdes, Señor de las Aguas and Federico Ordóñez 1 and 2.

Interagua also reported impacts in settlements and residential areas between kilometers 40 and 49 of Vía a la Costa, sectors near kilometer 63, and other nearby areas of influence.

No Restoration Time Yet

Interagua had not reported an estimated time for full restoration when the notice was issued. The company recommended that users follow official communications for repair progress and service-restoration updates.

What This Means for Expats

For residents or visitors along Vía a la Costa, the immediate issue is basic service planning. If you are in an affected area, check whether your building, urbanization or local administrator has updated tanker schedules or water-storage guidance.

This also matters for anyone considering Guayaquil-area housing. Water reliability, backup storage and local service response are practical questions to ask before choosing a neighborhood or signing a lease.
