Ecuador has a fresh heavy-rain warning through June 5.

Primicias reports that INAMHI meteorological warning 41 forecasts high-intensity rain between the afternoon of June 2 and June 5, 2026.

The strongest areas named are the Amazon, the north Coast and the northern Sierra.

Where Rain Is Expected

Primicias reports high rain levels in the Amazon provinces of Sucumbios, Napo, Orellana, Pastaza and Morona Santiago.

On the Coast, Esmeraldas, Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas, Manabi, and parts of Los Rios and Guayas are named.

In the Sierra, the most affected areas are expected in western Carchi, Imbabura and Pichincha.

Other Ecuador provinces, except Santa Elena and El Oro, are expected to see more moderate rain.

Main Risks

Primicias reports the heavy rain could cause water accumulation, flooding, electrical storms and wind gusts during storms.

It also notes that Ecuador declared a yellow alert in May for areas most exposed to El Nino-related weather events, covering 17 of 24 provinces, 143 cantons and 491 parishes.

What This Means for Expats

If you are driving between regions, the risk is less about the rain itself and more about road conditions after rain: landslides, pooled water, and reduced visibility.

Build extra time into interprovincial travel, especially toward the Amazon, the north Coast and the Quito/northern Sierra corridor.
