Ecuador’s interprovincial buses were operating normally on the morning of Friday, July 3, 2026, after Fenacotip left without effect the stoppage it had announced for that date.
Instead of stopping service, the transport federation asked the National Transit Agency, known as ANT, to install technical tables to review transport fares.
What Changed
The stoppage had been planned from 00:00 on Friday as a protest measure tied to what transport leaders described as an economic crisis in the sector.
But the strike did not happen. Terminals in Quito, Guayaquil, and Cuenca were reporting normal intra-provincial and interprovincial operations Friday morning.
What This Means For Expats
If you are traveling by bus today, the immediate disruption risk has eased. The service was described as normal nationwide on July 3.
The part to keep watching is fares. Fenacotip says higher fuel, parts, maintenance, and operating-input costs are hurting the economic sustainability of operators.
ANT had warned that an unjustified interruption or suspension of public transport can carry a fine equivalent to eight unified basic salaries. That pressure likely matters if new stoppage threats appear.
