Guayaquil's Aerovia will begin charging a new fare on July 1, 2026.
The regular fare will be $0.76, while the reduced fare will be $0.38 for older adults, students and people with disabilities.
What The System Covers
The Aerovia connects central Guayaquil with Duran and is part of the city's urban transport network.
The fare adjustment was approved by Guayaquil's Municipal Council. The municipality has said the increase responds to a contractual mechanism established in September 2017, with periodic reviews of the fare.
Why It Matters
For residents and visitors who use the Aerovia, the practical change is simple: budget the higher fare from July 1.
The debate around the system is broader. City officials have discussed improving the Aerovia's connection with the Metrovía system, while service observers have questioned whether the fare increase fixes the system's deeper operating problems.
For now, the new fare is the immediate change riders will feel.
